SCHMIDT BASKETBALL TOURNEY

The date is set to start and end on Sunday, January 10, 2010 This event, sponsored by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, is a roster single elimination tournament open to all teams who are currently playing in the South Milwaukee Recreation Department Leagues.   Games will be played at the South Milwaukee Senior High Fieldhouse.

 

Terry Schmidt was a long time coach and official for the South Milwaukee Recreation Department.  Terry coached 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams, and often chose his favorite team name of  “Wisconsin”.  Terry’s determination to teach and present a competitive team on the court will not be forgotten.  He was certified through the NYSCA as a lifetime member  and was also a co-founder and original member of the now well-established South Milwaukee Shoot-Out Basketball Tournament and Committee. For additional information, please call the South Milwaukee Recreation Department at 414-766-5081.

 

LITTLE "BUCKS" BASKETBALL

The popular Little Bucks Basketball Camp will be offered by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department for boys and girls in grades K4 and K5, and 1st and 2nd grade.  The program will be held December 5 - Feb 13 for both boys and girls at Rawson School.  Class will meet at 1:00 - 1:50 pm for boys and girls in grades K4 and K5; and from 2:00 - 2:50 pm for boys and girls in 1st and 2nd grade.

Instructors Matt Moen and Bob Swendrowski will again be back to teach your children the fundamentals.  Games will be kept low-keyed with a total program emphasis on having fun and learning skills.  Coaches will attempt to work on such phases of the game as offense, defense, shooting, passing and dribbling etc.  Volunteer coaches will be needed.

The program fee is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents.  We encouraged you to sign up NOW as the class size will be limited.

WRESTLING CLUB

Students in K – 5th Grades are invited to participate.  (Middle school wrestlers should sign up for the Middle School Wrestling Team.) Only wrestlers of similar weight and ability will be allowed to work together so bring a wrestling partner if you can.  No experience necessary!

 

Wrestlers will meet on Tuesday and Thursday, December 2 - 18; January 6 - March 12, from 5:30-6:30 pm.  (Dates and times may be adjusted.) COMPETITION IS NOT REQUIRED.  Kids can compete as much or as little as they want.  A parent MUST accompany wrestlers to tournaments.  Some tournaments may require a USA Card for a one-time fee of about $30.  Club coaches and parents will discuss tournament info ASAP in December. The format will include a warm-up, drills, instruction and live wrestling.  Coaches will do supervision and instruction.  Parents are encouraged to watch and help out at practice.

WRESTLING TEAM

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is offering an opportunity for youngsters enrolled in 6th, 7th and 8th grade to participate in the Wrestling Team.  The team will begin practice beginning December 1, Monday through Friday in the Middle School Wrestling Room – practices will be held from MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY - 5:30-6:30 PM; and TUESDAY & THURSDAY - 6:30-8:00 PM.   Matches will be scheduled against other school and bus transportation will be provided. Practice times are subject to adjustment.

 

The program fee is $46 for residents and $69 for non-residents.  We encouraged you to sign up NOW as the class size will be limited.

BASKETBALL - SH REC

The South Milwaukee Recreation will again offer the popular Senior High Recreation Basketball Program for 9th- 12th grade boys and girls.  The team entry and roster deadline is Tuesday, November 17, 2009.   Registration forms are available in the Recreation Department Office. Should you have questions or need additional information please call us at 766-5081.

 

The program player fee is $30 per player.  This fee must be paid on or prior to the team entry edadline of Nov 17 at the Recreation Dept.  If the player fee is not paid, the perspective player will not be allowed to play.

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is happy to announce that the exercise classes will again be offered.  The classes will begin the week of November 9 and students will have eight lessons.  All classes will be held in room 1125 in the Senior High School, except Water Aerobic will be offered at the Middle School in the pool.  The classes offered will be:

RUNNING CLUB

COMPUTER CLASSES FOR FALL

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HOME COMPUTER

This class explores some of the basics and more interesting but lesser known areas of home computing.  You will learn more about using your computer for tasks that you may not use it for now, including learning the terminology, resources on the internet, creating various documents, learning how to save and find files, and customizing settings on your computer.  This course is intended for anyone that is somewhat new to home computers or just wants to learn more about the basics.   This class will be held on Monday evenings, Sep16 - Oct. 21-  (6 classes), 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105.   

 

LEARNING MICROSOFT OFFICE

This is a beginning course for leaning the various programs of the Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.  How to use these programs at home or work will be explored.  This class is intended for people who have a basic knowledge of their computer, or are also taking the “Getting the most out of your home computer” class in conjunction with this class.  This class will be held on Wednesday evenings Sept - Oct. -  (6 classes), from 7:30 – 9:00 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 24).  

 

This class is closed:  INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT OFFICE

This course will go into a higher level of using the Microsoft Office package, including Word, Excel and Power Point.  Creating more sophisticated and more technically useful documents is a goal of this course.  A good working knowledge of these programs or previous completion of the Recreation Department “Learning Microsoft Office” course (or a similar class) would be very helpful to get the most out of this class.  This class will be held on Wednesday evenings Sept - Oct. - (6 classes), from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 24).  

 

This class is closed:  LEARNING MICROSOFT EXCEL for the beginner 

This course is intended to introduce you to the program and help you find uses for it in your home, class, or business.  This course is intended for people who are comfortable finding their way around their computer, and have an interest in learning how a spreadsheet program works.  This class will be held on Monday evenings, Sept - Oct. -  (6 classes) 6:00 – 7:30PMfrom 7:30 – 9:00 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 24).

 

The class fee is $32 for residents and $48 for non-residents.  We encouraged you to sign up NOW as the class size will be limited.

LEARN TO SWIM

Come Join the Fun!  Make swimming an important part of your child’s life!!  Swimming lessons will give your child a good start in learning to enjoy the water as well as learning the skills necessary for its use as a lifetime sport.  Swimming classes designed to teach and improve skills to instill a positive and safe attitude toward water.

 

Classes will be held at the South Milwaukee Middle School Pool beginning Sep 19 - Nov 21 (no class Oct 10 & 31).

 

For safe and effective instruction, it is important that children sign up for the appropriate level when they register.  In most cases, students require an average of two or more sessions before passing a given level. There will be 8 Lessons are scheduled as follows:

 

THIS CLASS IF FULL   Parent/child, 2-5 years, 10:00 - 10:25 am

NEW CLASS OPENED  Parent/child, 2-5 years, 12:00 - 12:25 pm

Level 1 & 2, 10:30 - 11:10 am

Levels 3 & 4, 11:15-11:55 am

SMAC - FALL

What a great opportunity for kids 6 years and older who can swim 2 lengths of the pool to develop coordination, and enhance your swimming skills.  This competitive swim program is designed for both the beginning and experienced swimmer.  The objectives are to promote enjoyment while learning fundamental competitive swim skills, as well as providing continuing development for the experienced swimmer.  Please note that competition is optional and is not a requirement for membership.  NEW members are always welcome.  Attendance is not mandatory at all practices - the coaches will develop a practice schedule that best suits your needs.  The fall session runs September 14 – December 18, and will be held 6:00-8:00 on Monday & Friday and Wednesday from 6:00-7:20 PM.

 

The program fee is $48 for residents and $72 for non-residents.  We encouraged you to sign up NOW as the class size will be limited.

ADULT BB & VB LEAGUES

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is now accepting applications in its adult volleyball and basketball program.  Team entry forms are now available at the Recreation Department Office located at 901 15th Avenue.  All teams must register on or before Wednesday, September 30 by 4:00PM and all registration sponsor fees must be paid at this time.  Resident Sponsors and previous year teams in good standing will have priority. 3rd - 8th GRADE BASKETBALL

The South Milwaukee Recreation will again offer the popular GRADE BASKETBALL PROGRAM for 5th – 8th grade boys and girls.  Parental permission slips are now available at your school or the Recreation Department.  Games will be played on Saturdays beginning December 5, with practices beginning the week of November 2.  Volunteer coaches will be needed.  The registration deadline is October 9, 2009.

 

Tryouts will be held at the Senior High Fieldhouse on the North Court as follows: 

Tue  October 13   7 & 8 Girls at 3:15pm;   5 & 6 Grade Girls at 4:30pm;   3 & 4 grade girls at 5:15pm.

Wed October 14   7 & 8 Boys at 3:15pm;  5 & 6 Grade Boys at 4:30pm;  3 & 4 grade girls at 5:15pm.

 

The basketball program fee is $28 for residents and $42 for non-residents if registered on or before Oct. 9; and $38 for residents and $52 for non-residents if registered after Oct. 9th.  All players must be registered in order to tryout.  All players trying out will be placed on a team.

YOUTH DRAMA

 Designed for students 8-12 years of age who wish to enhance creative expression while and developing theatrical and improvisation skills through the use of movement activities, drama exercises and role playing.  Focus will be on character development, mastery of voice and facial expressions and body movements.  Theatre games will be taught to build team work and self-esteem.  An active and vibrant class environment is encouraged where fun is the priority!  Please Join our new instructor Patrice Van Hyle for a wonderful class experience.

 

Class will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:20PM on Sept. 23, 30; Oct. 7, 14 and 21 in the Middle School MPR.  Please enter through door #34.
