Imagine, Create & Participate Storytimes
June 17 – July 23
A series of six storytimes for ages 3 through 6 years will be held on Wednesdays (2 p.m.) and Thursdays (9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.) Each storytime lasts approximately 45 minutes. Caregivers do not have to attend, but are asked to remain in the Building. (For those attending the 9:30 a.m. storytime, please enter at the Health Department entrance – the library opens at 10 a.m.) Enrollment is limited.
Registration begins Monday, June 8th at 8:30 a.m. by phone or 10 a.m. in person for Greendale residents and on June 9th for the general public. Registration for groups of 4 or more will begin on Wednesday, June 10th. E-mail registrations to grnd.ref@mcfls.org that are initiated after 8:30 a.m. June 8th will be accepted.

SUMMER LIBRARY PROGRAM
"Be Creative @ Your Library" will be the theme for the summer library program at the Greendale Public Library, 5647 Broad Street. The program will run from June 15th through August 21st. Programs include Storytimes for ages 3 - 6, Book Buddies (2nd and 3rd level students), Lunch Bunch (4th, 5th and 6th level students), Reading Club and Terrific Tuesdays. Registration for the storytime series (ages 3 - 6), Book Buddies (students entering grades 2 or 3 in the fall), and Lunch Bunch (students entering grades 4, 5 or 6 in the fall) begins on Monday, June 8th at 8:30 a.m. by phone (414 423-2136) or at 10:00 a.m. in person for Greendale residents. E-mail registrations to grnd.ref@mcfls.org that are initiated after 8:30 a.m. June 8th will be accepted. Registration for the general public begins on June 9th. Registration for groups of 4 or more will begin on Wednesday, June 10th. Enrollment is limited.The “Imagine, Create and Participate” storytime series (June 17th – July 23rd) will feature stories, songs, rhymes and crafts about colors, music, dance, imagination and more. Children ages 3 - 6 may register for the six weekly sessions that will be held on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. or Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. Caregivers may choose to attend/not attend, but are asked to remain in the building.The Book Buddies (students entering 2nd or 3rd grade) will meet for three weekly sessions on Mondays or Thursdays, June 22nd – July 9th, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Each participant will receive a paperback copy of the chosen book, Mr. Hynde is Out of His Mind! (My Weird School Series #6) by Dan Gutman. In addition to the discussion there will be craft and game activities. Bring your own lunch. Beverage will be provided. Mary Helen Block, Circulation and Technical Services Librarian will be the discussion leader.
Students entering 4th, 5th and 6th grade are invited to join the Lunch Bunch. The group meets every third Thursday (June 18, July 9, July 30 and August 20) from 12:30 until 1:30. A title will be assigned for each discussion. Read the book prior to the discussion. Request a library book or purchase your own copy (discount provided at Once Upon a Time Bookshop). Bring your own lunch. Beverage will be provided. Register for one, two, three or four sessions. Lesley Connor, Once Upon a Time, The Village Bookshop will be the discussion leader. Children of any age may join the Reading Club, record either the titles of books read (or read to them) or the amount of time spent reading and earn entries into the prize drawing that will be held on August 21st. The Reading Club begins on June 15th. On Tuesdays (June 16th – July 28th) a 45-minute program will be held at 10:30 a.m. and repeated at 2:00 p.m. Attendance is limited to the first 95 children (must be able to attend “on their own”) who arrive on time for the program. Numbers will be given out in the library beginning 30 minutes prior to the program. Adults will be admitted at the program start time if children have not taken all 95 spaces. The June 16th program will feature LaBak the Magician who will present a Magic Show.

The Summer “Catch the Reading Bug” Reading Club will begin on Monday, June 16th. Children may register any time during regular library hours beginning on June 16th. Children of any age may join the club and record titles read to them, titles they read on their own or time spent reading. Receive prize coupons after first 10 titles or three hours and 20 minutes of reading. Enter drawing for more prizes after each additional 10 titles or three hours and 20 minutes of reading. All reading must be completed and reported by 5 p.m. on August 22nd to be eligible for the prize drawing.
The Library is also offering a Summer Reading Program for Adults (and Young Adults -- age 16 and over). Participants are asked to read at least 3 fiction books between June 16 and August 22, and then fill out reading records for the books they've read. Completed reading records will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the program. Sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program also begins June 16.

The Greendale Public Library will host book discussion groups for children this summer. The Book Buddies group is for students entering 2nd and 3rd Levels in Fall, 2008 and the Lunch Bunch group is for students entering 4th, 5th and 6th Levels in Fall, 2008.
The Book Buddies (grades 2 & 3) will meet for three weekly sessions on Mondays or Thursdays, June 16th – July 3rd, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. to discuss Judith Greenburg’s In the Garden (Andrew Lost Series #4). Each participant will receive a paperback copy of the book. In addition to the discussion there will be craft and game activities. Bring your own lunch. Beverage will be provided. Mary Helen Block, Circulation and Technical Services Librarian will be the discussion leader.
